A Trip to the Library or Just to Your Kitchen?

Have you read our  previous post about embracing the internet's favourite aesthetic, cottagecore? If you haven't, we highly suggest that you check it out and then come back here to read this one!

Have you read it yet?

Okay, good.

Another aesthetic that's been popular on the internet recently is "Dark Academia". According to this New York Times article, dark academia is "a subculture with a heavy emphasis on reading, writing, learning — and a look best described as traditional-academic-with-a-gothic-edge". If cottagecore wasn't the look for you, then maybe dark academia is? Why not read ahead to see if it piques your interest?

How stunning is this kitchen? As you can see, the woodwork is stained to be a very dark colour, while the walls and tiles are much lighter. This creates such a beautiful contrast that you could achieve for yourself with some dark woodstain, some while tiles or even just some light coloured paint! We love the dresser in the back, and how it's being used to display beautiful ceramics. If you notice, the handles on the dresser and the drawers of the kitchen island are very much like our own brushed brass cup handles, which are a new product of ours!

Again, in this kitchen there is a heavy contrast between light and dark. The granite countertops and walls are absolutely stunning, and it doesn't even have to cost you a fortune to achieve a similar look. After a quick google search, we found a marble sticky-back plastic wallpaper that you could use to cover a statement wall in your kitchen! Pair this with some dark paint and some lovely copper accents and you have yourself your dream kitchen. The handles in this kitchen are quite unique, but we think you would be just as happy with these antique copper bow handles that we have available in our shop.

If the previous kitchens we've shown you just aren't dark enough for your taste, then have a look at this beauty! This black woodwork, tiling and walls, it could be the gothic kitchen of your dreams. We love the brass and white accents that lift this kitchen and keep it from being too overpoweringly dark. We think our black square 'D' frame handle would look perfect in a kitchen like this, but if you want something that would lift the room a little more, why not look at our new brushed brass knobs

If you have enjoyed reading this blog post and would like to see more dark academia kitchens, have a look at our pinterest board! We personally love this aesthetic - what about you? Would you try it out in your own kitchen? Let us know!
